The configurable MUNIN 1005-IF platform is ideal for capturing one or more intermediate frequency (IF) channels in real-time for ELINT and wideband COMINT data collection.
The are two main modes of operation:
1. With an RF stage before the IF input, allowing MUNIN 1005-IF to operate as an IF sampling recorder
2. With attenuation and filtering in front of the MUNIN 1005-IF input, allowing it to act as a direct RF sampling recorder.

Offline spectrum analysis for maximal analysis coverage
The more information and signals that need to be analyzed the more difficult it is to perform real-time spectrum analysis. Analysis is limited by the available real-time functions and processing capacity. Further, the use of real-time spectrum analyzers is often limited by the internal memory for spectrum management.
Recording all information ensures that no fundamental information is lost, and all data can be reviewed and analyzed any time with, for example, complex analysis functions that would not be fast enough for real-time analysis. Also, as new analysis algorithms become available the same data can be used repeatedly to gain new insights.
Out-of-the-box experience for quickly getting results
Shipped with ready-to-run client and server software, MUNIN 1005-IF is prepared for out-of-the-box usage, minimising development time and validation effort.
Gapless recording. The ELINT Wideband Recorder records all channels continuously without gaps, ensuring integrity of data for post-processing or replay.
Long recording time. MUNIN 1005-IF offers standard RAID configurations from 4 TB to 96 TB with industrial grade SSD disks. Depending on the channel configuration, you can continuously record data from minutes to hours to days. The storage capacity can be expanded beyond 96 TB.
Pre-trigger buffering. MUNIN 1005-IF features a circular pre-trigger buffer to capture events that happened before the trigger. Depending on the chosen buffer option and the selected real-time bandwidth, it is possible to capture pre-trigger data from a few seconds to multiple minutes.
Remote control. Thanks to the server-client architecture, the operator may choose to configure, monitor and control MUNIN 1005-IF locally or remotely. For remote handling, you can use the built-in client application or use direct TCP/IP commands from your own developed application.
Open file format. The generated files are saved as binary files in an open file format called TDMS that can be opened by third-party software like MATLAB® for analysis. It is possible to add user-defined metadata to the standard metadata fields. Recording directly to custom file formats is available upon request.
Timestamping. For accurate timekeeping, you can synchronise the recorder with the built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver. For improved timestamp accuracy below millisecond resolution, we recommend using a PPS (Pulse Per Second) signal. As standard, we support NTP (Network Time Protocol) and IEEE 1588 PTP (Precision Time Protocol) for synchronisation across all modules on the server and client. IRIG-B and GPS support may be added on request.
Scalable. MUNIN 1005-IF allows you to mix and match multiple IF inputs with various real-time bandwidths and record to a single RAID controller or multiple RAID controllers in parallel.
Playback. You can initiate software playback starting at any point in the recording, to analyse the recorded data. By adding a signal generator, recorded data can be played back continuously in real-time. Contact us for more information about hardware playback possibilities.
Custom Chassis Option
- Smaller depth and width: for specific environmental requirements, a custom chassis may be produced to fit the space available.
- Low noise: Fans with a low noise profile for deployment in quiet environments.
- Custom Airflow: Depending on the deployment environment, the airflow direction can be modified (front-to-back or back-to-front).
Enhanced Timing
- IRIG-B and GPS synchronisation options may be added on request
Custom Narrowband IF Frequencies
- Narrowband IF frequencies from DC to 225 MHz (0.07 MHz to 225 MHz if AC-coupled) may be supported as a customisation.
Data Movement
- VITA 49.0 may be implemented on request, to streamline interoperability with software tools that may receive VITA 49 packets.
Automatic Event Detection
Detection of events including:
- Power exceeding a set level in a determined band
- Events or signals from a database
- Clicks on the waterfall in the real-time spectrum monitoring view
